Originally from Sydney, he has worked for News Limited as a reporter and newspaper editor and is a contributor to Fairfax’s Sydney Morning Herald. In 2003 the Darwin Press Club named him Best Regional Journalist NT.
Glenn lectured and consulted in the environmental sciences and project management at Southern Cross University Lismore (then called University of New England Northern Rivers) between 1989 and 1992. Operating under the University’s consulting arm, The Centre for Coastal Management, Glenn consulted to private companies and governments including Fiji Sugar Corporation, Telecom (now Telstra), Boral P/L, Gold Coast Waterways Authority, NSW Public Works Department and Gold Coast City Council.
Prior to this Glenn was an engineering consultant as well as building and civil construction manager for companies including Civil and Civic P/L, a division of Lend Lease Corporation, and British consultants Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners for whom Glenn supervised parts of the raising of Queensland’s Hinze Dam to provide more water to Australia’s Gold Coast. He helped design a dual use water supply and hydro-electric scheme at Vaturu on Fiji’s main island Viti Levu, and project managed the Avatiu Harbour redevelopment in Raratonga Cook Islands on behalf of the Australian Development Assistance Bureau and the Cook Islands Government.
Somehow, Glenn also found the time to spend several years as a full-time musician. After completing contracts in the Territory at the end of the nineties, Glenn moved to Alice Springs in 2001 to report for the Centralian Advocate newspaper, ultimately becoming its editor.
Glenn holds a double degree from the University of NSW, specifically a Bachelor of Engineering with honours in civil engineering and a Bachelor of Science in geography and environmental chemistry. He is a published author and was shortlisted for the 2009 NT Literary Awards.
